Signs of Fall

Finally it feels like fall here in Kentucky. After what seems like 5 months of summer, colder weather has returned. There has been very little fall color this year because everything is brown and brittle. However, I was able to find a few signs of autumn.

Goldfinch Bonanaza

Yesterday the goldfinches were present by the gross. A conservative estimate would be around 500 birds. They were feeding on the Common Sunflowers and whatever the weed is below. Any idea what it is? They love the stuff and it must have just gone to seed because they were EVERYWHERE.
A few were patient enough to let me get some decent pictures. With so many birds around it wasn't too difficult to get a shot.
This little guy took flight just as I was closing the shutter.
